This Guide provides information about existing and planned facilities for people visiting Julie Court with disabilities. Because this is a general access guide, it concentrates on providing information that will be particularly helpful for those with mobility disabilities.

Where possible additional information is given for those with other types of disability.

In trying to give accurate information we have not glossed over the obstacles to access that still remain. However, it is important for disabled people not to be put off by reading about less than perfect access in this Guide.

Although limited facilities available for wheelchair users, provision for guests with limited mobility and other disabilities will be made wherever possible.

Julie Court
Paignton is generally level and Julie Court is situated on level ground with most of the nraby facilities and attraction has level access and wheel chair accessible. The entrance hall is level and is accessible to wheelchairs. All tourist information, computer with internet access and the payphone are in the hall.  We have Wi-fi internet access accessible from all apartments.
The car park is on level ground.
We are available onsite most of the time and available on mobile at any time. Julie Court ensures a completely non smoking and pet free environment. This is to benefit those with respiratory conditions or allergies. We have installed teletext televisions and Freeview boxes in all apartments.

Storage/Facilities for the Disable at Julie Court:

Covered area is provided for Storage of mobility vehicles and disable equipments with charging facilities for the battery operated vehicles.

We can loan wheel chair or Zimmer frame for emergency use.
We shall review any new developments and consider making changes to existing installations to improve disabled access, while having regard to what is reasonably possible and commercially viable.

 

Deaf or Hard of Hearing    

We have replaced all televisions with teletext TVs and have Freeview boxes.

Blind or partially sighted
On request, text of some of our hard copy information will be supplied in minimum 14 point Arial for the benefit of those who require large print.

Limited mobility or wheelchair user 

Apartment 1

Situated on the ground floor.  
Not Suitable for wheel chair users and is accessible to people with limited mobility.
The four steps leading from the car park have easily gripped handrails on both sides. The light switches and plugs are all designed at optimal height. Light switches have contrasting colour background for blind or partially sighted.
Inside the apartment, bathroom are all level with smooth non slip surface.

Apartment 2

Situated on the ground floor.  
Not Suitable for wheel chair users and is accessible to people with limited mobility.
There are 3 steps with handrails leading from the door of the apartment.
Bedroom - 1 has a double bed and a set of pine bunk beds. Bedroom -2 has twin single bed. The spacious lounge is in the centre of the apartment with separate kitchen, toilet and shower room. All are on level with smooth non slip surface
Light switches have contrasting colour background for blind or partially sighted.

Apartment 3

Situated on the ground floor.  
Level access from the car park to inside the apartment.
Accessible by Wheel Chair in all areas of the apartment except the Bathroom. All are on level with smooth non slip surface.
Light switches and plugs are installed at optimal height and switches have contrasting colour background for the blind or partially sighted.

Apartment 4

Situated on the ground floor. Not Suitable for wheel chair users and is accessible to people with limited mobility
Access through the second reception room which has two steps from the ground. Inside the aparatment, Bedroom 1 has double bed and there are 3 steps with handrail leading inside the bedroom. Bedroom 2 has twin single beds and is level with the hall and living room. Middle of the hallway has two steps with hand rail. Living room and bedrooms are all level with smooth non slip surface.
Light switches and plugs are installed at optimal height and switches have contrasting colour background for the blind or partially sighted.

Apartment 5

Situated on the ground floor. Not Suitable for wheel chair users and is accessible to people with limited mobility
Access through the second reception room which has two steps from the ground. Inside the apartment is fully level with all room has smooth non slip surface.
Light switches and plugs are installed at optimal height and switches have contrasting colour background for the blind or partially sighted.

Apartment 6

Not suitable for wheel chair.
Situated on the first floor at the front of the building with long private balcony. The main staircase has two flight of stairs with landing in the middle.
Living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom are all level with smooth non slip surface.
Light switches and plugs are installed at optimal height and switches have contrasting colour background for the blind or partially sighted.

Approximate Distances to attractions & amenities:
On Foot:
The nearest public house (suitable for family) is 5m.
The bus stop is about 50m.
The seafront is 60m.

Nearest restaurant is 60m.
Paignton pier, Multiplex cinema, Paignton Harbor & the Town centre is approximately 4-5 minutes walk.

The route to the beach or Town centre is level and is wheelchair accessible.

By Car:
Oldway mansion – 2 mins by car
Paignton Zoo – 5 mins by car
Torquay Harbour – 5-6 mins by car
Brixham Harbour – 10-15 mins by car.
